Eason Chan 陳奕迅 《一絲不掛》MV

This is an MV of Hong Kong famous male singer - Eason Chan.

This piece of MV is highly recommended for the song (You may not understand the lyrics tho ...)  but also the sand art presented.

Someone may regard art as a pure expression only and may not include as graphic design.
However, I think art form is very important as it is a starting point to inspire the designer to incorporate the purpose in it which makes the art from become pragmatic.

In here, sand art is somehow a new way to express the message other than animation and movie. It cant be redone, corrected nor edited. All should be done at once. The process or the scene must be well-prepared n well-presented. In this MV, it mixed the idea of movie and sand-art, there is a man acting while the background is in progress to deliver the sad romance. The action of the man and the positioning of sand must synchronize and there is a huge difference between the sand plate and the screen shown on the MV. From these two points we can see the detailed thoughts and the intelligent design of the sand-artist which can explain why this MV is highly appreciated and also the sand art itself.

Besides, sand-art is similar with the Chinese art, they only differ from sand and ink. They both make use of a frame of mind to illustrate the picture which can evoke the audience's emotion or guide the them to think beyond.

What is the different between Art n Design? Art is to evoke the people's emotion while Design is to evoke the people's emotion and achieve its purpose. This MV is a good design because it evokes so many people's heart and bring them to HMV to buy the CDs.

Swiss Style

Swiss style or International style doesn't mean the design comes from Switzerland.
It comes from a group of talented Swiss designer who emerged in Russia, Germany and Netherland.

The Swiss style, as you can see, they all are simple, geometric and symbolic. Besides, the It also focuses on the keen attention to detail, precision, craft skills, system of education and technical training, a high standard of printing as well as a clear refined and inventive lettering and typography. It has exported worldwide in 1960s to become a new movement in design field, hence become an international style.

After the emergence of modernism and constructivism  in 1930s, the Swiss Style can be defined as an authentic pursue for simplicity - the beauty in the underlines of a purpose, not beauty as a purpose in itself.
It resulted that a slogan "form follows function" arose and leaded to a Swiss Style devotion as a minimal elements in typography design and content layout as well as on textures and illustrations.

Here are some of the examples of The Swiss design.

Among all of the periods that I have learnt in class,
I like The Swiss Style very much.
It is kind of type as well as an image.
It is readable, playful and understandable.
It is its own character - simple which can drag us from those noisy designs.
That's why it can stand out and is punched in my mind.

Lines

In Design field, we have to deal with lots of line to create the space, shape so that we can recognize the object as a form.

Line Image One
Lines are so simple to draw that they can be depicted in many forms, no matter it is wavy, straight or broken one.
You can draw according to your mood and feeling.

Line Image Four
Horizontal an vertical lines within a design often are called stabilizers.
Horizontal lines imply rest and repose.
Vertical lines imply have some potential of activity.
Diagonal lines imply motion strongly.

Balance

Balance Image Four

It is a picture in Ukiyo-e period.
The artist makes use of imbalance of size of the object to create an eye-catiching scene and exhibit the magnificence of the mountain.

Balance Image Ten
It is called as crystallographic balance.
It is a refinement of symmetrical balance.
It often uses in fabric patterns, wallpaper and floor tiles.

Balance Image Six
Balance Image Seven
Not only the pattern could create an imbalance scene, but also did the color.
Though the imbalance in the B&W pic is obvious,
the imbalance in the colored one is even enhanced in order to create a stability at the bottom part.

Wanna sneak out.

---
It is a little monkey captured in Shing Mun Reservoir.
---

Sometimes, my city makes me suffocated.
Sometimes, my city makes me grey.
Sometimes, my city makes me dull.

I just want to sneak out.
And bring me back some color.

Bye.

To burn or to f a  d   e     o     u          t .. ?

I burnt 19 packets of candle
in mid-autumn night.

I recorded their splendor.

Life plays once.
Try to capture your life.
As much as every moment.
As much as every detail.

Never fade out
Coz life looks so beautiful.
That's what you are.
